Memorial Day Weekend is a long three day weekend which heralds the start of Summer for Americans – and hopefully a well earned extra day off for some.  Having being warned the traffic would be thick, we opted out for a couple of day trips to some interesting but not too far away places.  Skagit Valley north of Seattle, close to the Canadian Border was our first days trip.

EDISON – a tiny village but worth getting off the motorway for a visit.  Exceptional Taco brunch at Mariposa.  No eftpos at any of the stores we visited there so remember to take cash!

LA CONNER – full of art, antiques, and ‘stuff’ – AND, the only Volunteer Fire Brigade Museum I’ve seen.  HG was in heaven!

SHOPPING – LIFE magazine in perfect condition published the day I was born found at Nasty Jack’s Antiques, and a second hand book of my favourite artist of all times Georgia O’Keeffe!

INBETWEEN

MUST VISIT NEXT TIME – Taylor Shellfish Farm  We stopped and visited the farm on the waterfront, but after a windy drive around Chuckanut Drive to get there did not have the appetitie to buy.  Well worth a visit though – next time!
